The Fair Charity - Explorers Against Extinction
Artists and famous faces have joined forces for a special touring exhibition and fundraising action of wildlife art to highlight the threats to iconic animals around the world. Throughout the four days of the Fair, guests will be able to view the Sketch for Survival 2019 collection, comprising sketches, paintings and digital artworks featuring endangered species by leading wildlife artists and celebrity supporters.
Celebrity supporters include Oscar winning actress Dame Judi Dench, Olivier Award winning actress Sophie Thompson and the world’s most famous living explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
New for 2019 is Focus for Survival, a wildlife photography exhibition featuring endangered species donated by professional and celebrity wildlife photographers. These award-winning figures include best-selling author and television presenter Simon Reeve, critically acclaimed writer, photographer and explorer Levision Wood and wildlife filmmaker and presenter Gordon Buchanan.
Both Sketch and Focus for Survival are initiatives by Explorers Against Extinction (registered charity No 1177505), the official charity of the Conde Nast Luxury Travel Fair 2019. The charity works to promote the conservation and raise awareness of rare and endangered species and their habitats, whilst also raising significant funds to fight wildlife crime.
One African elephant is poached for its tusks every 26 minutes. That's nearly 56 a day. This year's fund-raising will help to safeguard a future for the elephants of Garamba National Park, an ancient UNESCO World Heritage park managed by non-profit African Parks in Democratic Republic of Congo. The park has been hard hit by poaching with the elephant population being reduced from 22,000 in the 1970s to less than 2000 today.
